About CatMap
What CatMap is
CatMap is a free, anonymous world map where anyone can drop a pin to report a cat sighting. Attach a photo and a short description, and the cat appears on the map for others nearby to find and confirm. Over time the map fills in with real, community-confirmed sightings of stray, ear-tipped, and neighborhood cats worldwide.
It's built for people who care about the cats around them: trackers of colony cats and TNR (trap-neuter-return) efforts, people looking for a missing cat, or anyone who just wants to see which cats live nearby.
How it works
- Tap the map (or use your location) to drop a pin where you saw a cat.
- Add a photo — the app reads EXIF GPS automatically when available.
- Write a short description and post it. A dot appears on the world map.
- Anyone can tap a dot to view the sighting and confirm the cat is still around.
Anonymous by default
You don't need an account to use CatMap. Each device is identified by a random token stored only in your browser, used solely to prevent double-confirming and to let you manage your own posts. No personal information is required to post, confirm, or browse the map. Uploaded photos have their EXIF metadata stripped before storage.
An account (email/password or Google) is entirely optional — it only exists to sync your cats and hearts across devices and to send you notifications you opt into. Read the full Privacy Policy for details on what is and isn't stored.
